Q: Is your device a cell phone jammer that blocks every call?
A:  No, our system is not a cell phone jammer and will not allow texting while driving. In “Safe Driving Mode”, our mobile phone software redirects incoming calls, and the “Key2SafeDriving” logo is shown on the screen to inform the user that he/she cannot send text messages or make non hands-free calls.

Q: Since it is Bluetooth, do I have to pair?
A:  Manual pairing of the phone to the Key2SafeDriving unit is not required. The software and Activator pair automatically without any input required from the end user.

Q: In the event of a crash or other emergency, if my kid can’t take the key out of the ignition, can he still use his phone?
A:   During emergency, a user can click on the “Emergency” button below the K2SD Logo to initiate a 911 or other permissible numbers such as parents’ phone numbers .

Q: Does your system allow a passenger to use his/her own phone?
A:   Yes, a passenger can still use his/her phone to talk or text, as long as his/her phone is not associated with the “Activator” installed in the automobile.

Q: With your system, can I use my phone in a bus or a train?
A:   Yes, Our system does not depend on GPS or cell tower triangulation to detect “driving” mode.

Q: With your system, can a driver use a hands-free headset to talk while driving?
A:   Yes, you can still use a hands-free headset. We encourage you to reduce your total talking time on a hands-free headset while driving. Studies by University of Utah psychologists indicate hands-free phones are just as distracting as handheld phones when talking while driving.

Q: With your system, can I use a hands-free device to talk and still disable my texting function while driving?
A:   Yes, you can disable the option of texting while driving and still maintain use of your hands-free device.

Q: What if my child manually turns off Bluetooth in his cell phone?
A:   Our mobile phone software enables Bluetooth and keeps it enabled.

Q: What if my child has his/her cell phone off when starting the car, and then turns the phone back on after the car is started?
A:   By design, our software prevents a teen from manually turning off the Bluetooth of his phone. There are parental locks that will prevent the teenager or user from manipulating this without permission or a passcode. The parents or administrator can go to our website and setup the passcode using a PC’s browser, and the K2SD software program in the associated cell phone will automatically update and synchronize with any changes made to the user’s setting without use of a USB cable.
If somehow a teen driver circumvents the parental locks and Bluetooth is turned off, our system can automatically switch on Bluetooth and search for the driving signal from the paired key, so that texting and talking while driving can be identified and blocked by our software program and the transgression is recorded for use in our safety score system.

Q: What if my child switches his phone with his friend?
A:   Unfortunately we can’t stop this from happening. However with our systems reporting features, you should be able to determine if the system is not activated at a time when you know that it should have been.

Q: Since your system uses Bluetooth, would it reduce the cell phone battery life dramatically?
A:   We have an intelligent Bluetooth power management module to maximize the battery life. In the “soft reporting” mode, Bluetooth needs to be (automatically) turned on only when the phone is used to talk or text. Besides, our Bluetooth interface handles simple on/off switch signals, so it is not as battery-consuming as typical hands-free devices.

Q: Do I need one key for each phone in my family?
A:   No, you will need one Bluetooth “Activator” for each automobile, each ‘Activator” can be paired with single or multiple phones.

Q: Does the device alert the parents/administrator in real time?
A:   After identifying a driver has tampered with the Key2SafeDriving and is talking/texting while driving, our system can send an alert text message to the parents/administrator in real time .

Q: Where does the Key2SafeDrving device plug in to my vehicle?
A:   The Key2SafeDriving device plugs directly into your vehicle's OBDII port.
OBD stands for "On-Board Diagnostics." This is a computer-based system built into all standard vehicles since 1996.
The OBD system allows auto manufacturers and mechanics a way to connect to the car's computer, letting them access important data about your car. Key2SafeDriving uses this same system to determine data such as when the car is running, how fast it is going, etc. .
